ABOUT US
Martyn Castelein, founder of Ocean Stainless, has 15+ years experience as a welding and construction manager for many of the world’s largest and most respected builders — including Heesen Yachts, Sensation Yachts, McMullen & Wing, Jade Yachts, and Horizon Yachts.
Castlelein, says he created Ocean Stainless to fulfill a need. The superyacht industry is still expected to deliver on the same exquisite custom work, superior products, and exceptional workmanship even during tough economic times where they are seeking to reduce costs. Ocean Stainless’ remote manufacturing practices, strategic partnerships, and industry experience position it in a unique and powerful niche to provide new-builds and refits with superior products and services at desirable pricing.
How does Ocean Stainless’ pricing compare to other stainless steel suppliers? “Safely in the middle range,” says Castelein. “Anyone seeking stainless and marine products knows who the quality players are in Asia, but they end up paying for a lot of overhead. For example, if we get a full stainless package, we can delegate and manage different tasks to appropriate suppliers depending on difficulty and price. This opens up a lot of doors and a lot of cost savings to both yacht owners and yards.”
Castelein advises his clients not to attempt stainless purchases through Taiwan directly, as this particular foreign market is difficult to navigate. The language barriers and cultural differences alone, he warns, can end up costing even an experienced and skilled buyer a lot of time and money. Castelein, a Dutch Kiwi, has lived in Taiwan for the past ten years and married into the Asian culture. His connections and business experience in Taiwan are proving to be of value to all. Castelein personally handles the management and order taking, while the more complex structures and engineering are managed and sourced through his carefully selected network. Typically, Western designers and engineers are appropriately paired with select manufacturers and suppliers in Taiwan.
“Doing business with Ocean Stainless is a win–win situation,” says Castelein. “It makes the build process so much easier at the end of the day when you know someone is hands-on managing your custom project and not just selling stainless for the best dollar per pound.”
Castelein holds numerous certifications, including diplomas from Lloyds ABS and a welding instructor’s DNV certificate. Ocean Stainless is committed to assuring each job meets or exceeds safety and performance standards and conforms to all relevant class specifications. Whether it’s a single bent stainless rail, custom exotic metal pipe fittings or the engineering and manufacture of a complete steel, aluminum or stainless package, Ocean Stainless’s high standards for quality and lean business operations are on course for more supersized success in the superyacht industry.
